I for one got so fed up with getting my hair pressed and having it get nappy the next second after a drop of sweat forms. I remember a day in middle school, i had just gotten it pressed and 10 minutes into gym class some white boy says, "Your hair magically puffed up!"
Perms made it fall out, braids are ugly and take too long and too much money to get done, and after that, there was just nothing else to do with it besides shave it off. My mom was angry but she was the one that insisted I get perms!! For five years now I've been wearing wigs because it isn't worth the time or money fooling with unmanagable hair. MY sisters wanted to do the same when they saw how easy it was just to throw on a wig everyday. Do you sometimes hate that you were cursed with nappy unmanagable hair?
Black woman, do you get so tired of your hair that you sometimes think about shaving it off?
Eh sometimes. I'm kinda like you, I hate how long it takes to get braids/how much they cost/how much it hurts. I could wear it natural but that would just be an afro and then everyone wants to touch and I don't need a bunch of idiots calling me "afro girl" again. But I like how my hair looks with a perm (most of the time) so I'll just keep it. My hair isn't a curse, just genetics. Nothing I can change for now so might as well live with it.

No.

I just thought of this seconds ago: Put something heavy at the end of your hair so it straightens out due to the effects of gravity.
EDIT: Lovelyday, I'm sick of hearing about black women being "self-hating" because they straighten their hair. I'm not black, and I certainly don't know what it's like to have nappy hair, but if people want to have a change in style, let them be!

I was blessed with beautiful hair, wavy, thick, soft and glossy, nappy is beautiful, learn to embrace your hair ,braids are beautiful as are other Afrocentric hairstyles, dont self hate.

Uh...I think your mental. Maybe after you shave off your hair you can donate it to a white girl. Because a lot of them are dying to get your hair texture so they can finally feel like they have some culture. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa........

As a person who does hair, I can tell you black women have naturally diverse hair textures, colors and lengths. The same with white women and other women. The term nappy is derived from slavery. It is a term used to describe un-manageable hair, that can apply to anyone.
My hair is naturally curly. I have had it long, short, and in braids. If you ask women in general it takes work to maintenance your hair. That's why salons exist. I can refer you to numerous white women who's hair I have done, who just wanted to ,cut off their hair off for different reasons.
What was Brittany's Spears excuse!
You are obviously not a black women, nice try though!
Peace!

lol no my hair is nappy but is not unmanagable, I am going to assume that you just don't want to take care of your hair, and I was blessed with my full head of nappy hair not cursed....
Black woman, do you get so tired of your hair that you sometimes think about shaving it off?
First of all NO! and second of all i was not CURSED with nappy unmanagable hair. You just need to know how to take care of the hair GOD has blessed you with. you should never call your hair a "curse" because I'm sure there is some little girl lying in a hospital bed right now suffering from the sideaffects of chemotherapy wishing she had a big fro! ;o)

Yeah I don't envy black hair.

well, why don't you just lock your hair.. you can get it done professionally... there is something called sister locks that looks similar to braids....
also it could just be that your not happy with the way you look it seems to be about a little bit more than just a problimatic hair style.

Is this a trick question? Are you a troll? Yep.
Black woman, do you get so tired of your hair that you sometimes think about shaving it off?
At least it doesn't fall out in clumps like white women, you ever looked in a drain after a white girl showered? it's like they're shedding.

I am confused...is there nothing better for you to talk about then how you are unappreciative of the way you are created?...there is nothing wrong with your hair just the way that you view it...and for those that say they would not like to have black hair...that is just special
Blessed Be

I have buzzed my hair down a few times, and I don't have really nappy hair. My hair tends to be really long and thick when properly cared for, but I am also a really high-stress person. The first time went buzz-cut was back in college because I was carrying too heavy a courseload and working at the same time and my idiot boyfriend was on my nerves. The second time was about five years ago when I was badly overstressed at work and also having heart trouble and my weight dropped under 100 lbs and my hair started shedding. I whacked over a foot and a half off my hair and all my friends and coworkers had a hissy fit like I had committed some sort of crime. I let my hair grow almost back to my shoulders, but it started falling out again from my medication, so I grabbed the clippers and buzzed it all off myself about two years ago and I've been keeping a short pixie cut ever since. Everybody's pissed at me for not growing it back, but IT'S ONLY HAIR.
Black hair is beautiful in all of it's forms, especially when it is worn big and natural. But our hair does take lots of work to maintain. There is no such thing as "unmanagable" hair and nappy hair is NEVER a "curse" - constantly bemoaning the fact that you do not have wash-n-go hair means that you are just plain lazy and/or have no self esteem.

I cut my hair off about 4 years ago. I didn't really look good with long hair and I didn't like the whole process of getting perms and having to wait hours. I was just never a hair person. My mom never taught me how to style my own hair and I just didn't care enough to learn so when I was in the military I got my hair cut off. Now I just worry about going to the barber every other week and I love that. I think I look very nice with shorter hair and I get a lot of compliments. I don't think I ever thought having nappy hair was a curse but I do remember becoming so exasperated with it when I was a teen. I just didn't know how to care for my hair properly because I wasn't really taught.

I guess many of those hair straighteners don't work. Buy a different hair straightener. The Maxi Glide hair straightener is supposed to work well. You can order it from MaxiusBeauty.com. I saw it advertised on television one night. It looked like it was marketed mostly for black women. Don't shave it off. You will look like a black version of Britney Spears on a bad day if you do that.
