Straight hair and Split ends?

A lot of girls at my school wear relaxers. At the same time, I cannot stop noticing how many split ends and rough ends they have. Why do they have all those splits/rough ends. My hair is naturally curly and it's virgin hair. I bought a hair iron and some heat protecting cream to straighten my hair.I am scared not because I don't want to have all of those ugly split ends. My hair is properly moisturized, washed(once a week), and I wear a loose braid and a silk scarf.

Straight hair and Split ends?

I'm not the best person to answer this question ... being a guy and white, but I hang out with some guys that own a very popular local hair place. According to them too much heat will shred your hair, so take care with that new hair iron. Oh, and tight corn rolls will turn your hair into broom straw ... your loose braids probably really save you some hair damage. Hair relaxers ... think about this ... they are chemicals that partially chemically melt your hair to take the curl out. You could imagine this would also be kind of hard on the hair. I guess if you don't want those split ends you are going to have to do your own thing and not follow the frizzy crew ... good luck, keep it curly.

You have to trim 1/4 inch off the ends every month and every time you relax it.

more than likely they are using home kits, insted of going to a har salon and getting it done thr right way. also it could be from heat due to curling the hair. i only know because my step sisters hair is like that. thank god my hair is naturally curly and i can blow dry it straight

The relaxers are like a perm it is a chemical that's why their hair is damaged.

Sally's Beauty Supply has a lot of good stuff to use to keep healthy hair while using the iron.

Straight hair and Split ends?

Relaxed hair = split ends. The chemicals in the relaxer fries the hair so that the curl is gone. I have curly hair, too, and to prevent split ends when using a flat iron, put any kind of gel, straightener, or heat protecting cream on your hair to keep the iron from stripping your hair of it's natural oils. If you put some kind of product on your hair, it will fry off that before it fries off your hair's oils and damages your hair. You can also skip a day or two between washing your hair, and give it a chance to create more of the oils. By the way, these oils are good. The loose braid is great for your hair, I do the same thing with mine at night, to stop breakage. And the silk scarf is good too, you can actually style your hair the night before and wrap it in a silk scarf and it will be perfect when you wake up in the morning.

Hope this helps!
