I'm starting a hair braiding business. I think I'm under priced. I charge $20-25 for cornrow styles. If I'm under pricing my skill, how do I raise my price to current clients and/or people my clients refer to me?

$25 sounds good for a half head cornrow style. But if someone wants their entire head done and have medium to long hair I would charge at least 50 or 60. I got my hair braided and it was $65 for my whole head in little braids and I have long thick hair. Just dont raise them too high because your current clients might find somewhere else to go. i think another thing to look at when pricing hair is who is your customer? if you live in a small town, who will have the money to pay those prices... if you live in the city, but most of your customers are students and young people... they wont be able to afford high prices but they will come back a lot if you do a good job..... i think your prices are about right... i am from Atlanta and that's what i pay for non salon hair braiding.

You should keep it mousturized with curl cream or this great product call hair milk by Carol's Daughter. They sell is at sephora and i will give a link to the website. Try to take small sections of his hair one at a time and twist them around your finger to create small and more controlled curls.

Try to make sure to keep your son's hair well mosturized, but not overly so. Adding a light product every couple days should work. Keeping it shorter for the time being might help as well. It makes it a little more manageable for you, and maybe when he's a little older he won't take off the durag at night. Good luck.

Only because since they are so small when you style your hair you're causing a lot of tension that will cause the braids to break off mostly around your edges. Its even worse if you ha a perm before putting them in. And you should wait a day before perming it after taking them out.

too long is when they are knotting up at the top it can break your hair off really bad. and wait about 1week before you relax your hair let it breath and air out a little bit.

Low, curled pigtails are cute. Also the messy bun. Love that and Half up scrunched or straight.

For pigtails all you do is curl your hair like you would any other day and part it to the side so that the pigtails are uneven and put them in ponytail holders so your hair rests on your shoulders.

For the messy bun, don't brush your hair at all. Flip over so that your hair is in the front of your face, gather your hair and pull it into a bun (it doesn't matter if its neat or not). Use bobby pins to pin up any hair left hanging down.

For half up, scrunch or straighten hair as normal. Then pull top layer of hair back into a high ponytail.

My hair is ugly!! its dry and doesn't have that smooth feeling at all!! Every time i try to put my hair into a wrap its never shiny unless i use oil sheen, and its limp and sometimes it feels very heavy!! it doesn't have that normal bounce to it when i wrap it, it just like stays in one place, like if i shake my head or something.

Okay yeah my ends are split. I usually get relaxers every 6wks and they are home kits. I've done had two diffrent semi permanent hair colors added to my hair (Jazzing) and neither were comepletely removed.

The hair on the back of my head is the worst!! its like at the nape of my neck its a row of long hair and up until the middle of my head its really short like a babys hair. Then all over my head my hair is all diffreant lengths, the top is really long and the back is so short if i were to get braids you couldnt grip it.

I use to wear weave ponytails, up really high, I was told that gel brakes off the hair so i dont use it. But i think thats why

I have a few good ways to make your hair much healthier. My hair was very dry and thin and breaking off because of a messed up dye job and after doing these everything started getting better. make sure you are eating healthy and getting exercise and protein because these will effect your hair growth. try these to make you hair look, feel, and overall be much healthier quickly. anyone will work but i find the second to be most helpful the fastest. and you can do them all as often as you wish!

1. put olive oil in your hair and cover with a shower cap. sleep with that in but make sure you have a shower cap or it will all get in your bed. put shampoo on before even getting your hair wet or it will be very hard to get out. then just wash as normal.

2. [my favorite] mix two egg yolks with two tbsp of olive oil and a cup of water. put it all through your hair and leave it in for fiftenn minutes. it will be messy so its best to do it in the tub. after the fifteen minutes rinse out in luke warm water. watch out-if the waters too hot it will cook the egg! this will be hard to get out so your going to have to shampoo at least twice!

3. when washing your hair leave your conditioner in a little bit longer than usual. maybe 5-10 minutes. its as simple as that!

4. go into a salon and get a hot oil treatment done every once and awhile. they usually are not very expensive. just call different salons and ask their prices. it does wonders for the hair.

don't forget to get the split ends trimmed! if your ends are split your hair isnt going to grow very much.

Well, without seeing your hair in person it's hard to say. I can't even begin to make a recommendation! I would suggest that you stop in at a salon and have a stylist look at your hair and assess the situation. He/she can then let you know what your best course of action would be and you can decide and go from there.

BTW, gel does not necessarily break off hair, but it can contribute to dryness if it's a cheap brand and has a very high alcohol content. And from the sounds of things, you don't need anything else contributing to your dryness issues!!!

Good luck to you, I wish I could be of more assistance, but as I said it's really hard to make a recommendation like this without seeing your hair in person.

first of all, could you include the thickness of your hair on a scale of 1-10, 1 being very thin and 10 being super thick?

next, if you use any products, hold off on them until you see any improvement.

You should also have had the hair colors removed before getting another color...

But what I do is put shampoo the size of a golden dollar into my hand, lather it well, and rinse it out.

for conditioner, only put an itty bitty squirt into your hands; the size of a dime. only condition the lower part of your hair, from the ears down.

I do this and my hair is shiny without being oily and not frizzy.

And if none of this helps, seek extra help from a professional hair care expert.

How long should the hair in the pack be if im getting micro braids?

It depends on how long your actual hair is. I have hair past my shoulders and whenever I got micros, I would wear them to about my bra line since I knew my hair wasn't that length. Also, because if you do have long hair or it's a pretty good length, you don't want to get micros and have your hair show through them.

Basically, wear them a bit longer than what your natural hair is. Hope this helps any.

I would recommend that you try Motions you can get it at your local beauty supply house. I haven't tried doo-gro sorry. I use Motions before and after perms because the combs gets too hot to put on the hair it cools it down to prevent damage. Good Luck-L

Listen baby.try DR.MIRACLES its cheap,and if you get a weave DO NOT get micro braids or any kind of braids that will pull your hair and make the situation worse.Try a sew in were they yse thread and not glue on those tresses of yours.doo gro is ok bacause you need to keep it moisturized,but a light oil would be better.I use olive oil and olive oil sheen spray w/no alcohol whatsoever.Avoid pony tails altogether and opt for a decent trim at a local salon.They can take the shortest piece and layer from there,because you need to get those broken pieces outta yo head!! If you look closely at the ends they probly have a split like a "v"shape,and if not trimmed off the "v"will either split all the way up resulting in shorter hair than you started with or break right there at the ends leaving you with a thin tail in the back of that head of yours. I had a similar problem with my hair breaking off, so I stopped perming all together and went natural. Through a routine of getting tie-zillions in the summer to protect my hair from the heat and a press and curl in the winter after about 3 years I was able to bring my hair back to what is was and now after 8 years of this process my hair is in a better condition than it has ever been. My nephew (who is 5) just got his hair braided and it is, at most, 3 inches. The thing is with shorter hair is, depending on the texture, it may not hold very well. With enough gel and pomade, you may be able to get it to stay, but not for as long as you may like. Without feeling your hair, I can't tell you exact lengths. I can tell you though that cornrows would be easier to do because you keep adding more hair down your head. Braids would be very tiny on that short of hair %26amp; you may not be able to get a band on at the end of the braid.

Another option would to get a weave put in, but it would probably have to be glued in because I don't think braiding it in would hold very well with such short hair.

Braids are generally three-strand and not against your head. I guess the best way to describe cornrows is to say they're kind of like french braiding, in which you continue to add hair until it's tight and to the bottom of your head.

Final option is to grow your hair out a little more. I have never had problems braiding hair over 3-4 inches!

A really good braider could braid your short hair. The only way to know is to ask a braider if they can do it.

Cornrows are when the hair is crossed UNDER while braiding, and the braid sits on top of your hair.

Braiding is when the three sections of hair are crossed OVER one another while braiding. And the braid looks like it's IN your hair rather than sitting on top.

It sounds like your mother comes from a conservative up bringing when it was proper to wear your hair back or up most of the time. Ask her about it and tell her that you would like to find a style that you can both Agree or compromise on, Maybe that will help!

Okay so you like want to grow your hair! Cool! There are many ways! But like unfortunatly there's nothing that can grow your hair immediatly and like totally fast!

But try my tips:

1. Wear like braids you know like braids. Don't make them to tight though. And if you don't like brades sleep with braids on. It will like help your hair grow neatly and quickly!

2. Eat plenty of like vegies especially carrots!

4. Go to your nearest drugstore, and like ask the pharmasist for stuff to help you hair like grow. I forget what it's called but i know there's like this liquid to put on your hair to make it like grow fast!

I would recommend that you try Motions you can get it at your local beauty supply house. I haven't tried doo-gro sorry. I use Motions before and after perms because the combs gets too hot to put on the hair it cools it down to prevent damage. Good Luck-L

Listen baby.try DR.MIRACLES its cheap,and if you get a weave DO NOT get micro braids or any kind of braids that will pull your hair and make the situation worse.Try a sew in were they yse thread and not glue on those tresses of yours.doo gro is ok bacause you need to keep it moisturized,but a light oil would be better.I use olive oil and olive oil sheen spray w/no alcohol whatsoever.Avoid pony tails altogether and opt for a decent trim at a local salon.They can take the shortest piece and layer from there,because you need to get those broken pieces outta yo head!! If you look closely at the ends they probly have a split like a "v"shape,and if not trimmed off the "v"will either split all the way up resulting in shorter hair than you started with or break right there at the ends leaving you with a thin tail in the back of that head of yours. I know that the 100 strokes thing sounds retarded, but it distributes the oils through your hair whitch also helps your hair out.

I have gone natural, bone straight, extention braids and I don't know how to take care of my hair. I wouldn't permanently straighten your hair. I did that to my hair and messed it up real bad. I have tried it more then once. The first time was okay but it really damages your hair and then second time was a disaster. I have also used home kits to relax my hair and they do work but they are also very damaging to your hair. If you want to keep your hair healthy then just put in in a pony, bun or some type of hairstyle that will keep your hair out of your face. I have very curly hair but now I prefer to just keep it curly because it is easier to care for healthy hair then damaged dead hair. Also, the Aussie haircare products work great in my hair and I've tried everything!
