Most guys who grow their hair out go fairly short or really long - I would prefer a nice mid back length if you really want to grow it out.. but it's a pain in the butt to maintain just FYI. You will have to wash it with a very good protein enriched shampoo - make sure you always have it brushed with no tangles, because even the slightest tangles sometimes hurt.
btw - if it grows out and you still have the problem with the little curl flip thing get a straightening iron.
